To succeed at a check, the result of your die roll and modifiers must be greater than or equal to the difficulty of the check.

Some cards increase or decrease the difficulty of a check; for example, if a card says that the difficulty is increased by 2, add 2 to the number on the card you encountered; if it says the difficulty is decreased by 2, subtract 2.

If you are asked to determine the lowest or highest difficulty to defeat or acquire a card, include all active powers from cards that affect the difficulty except for powers that say they happen before acting, while acting, or after acting. If a card has no difficulty, treat it as 0.
