Characters gain Determination tokens when instructed to do so by various game effects, including when the result is rolled on the dice while attempting an Action.

Determination tokens can be discarded to activate characters' special abilities, or in other ways as described on various cards.

If Friday acquires Determination tokens, players can spend 2 of them at a time to reroll his Action dice.
