Combat in Revenant is deterministic. In the Action phase, players can use their Frigates and Fighters to attack Voidborn ships, which only fight back in the Skirmish phase, targeting the ships of the fleet.
When you attack with a Fighter or Frigate you have boarded, you may deal 1 damage with it in your current sector, which destroys 1 Voidborn ship there.
When you destroy 1 Voidborn ship, you immediately gain 1 Tactics for it, and then remove the ship from the main board. This is usually the result of your attack, but some effects and abilities let you destroy Voidborn ships directly. In these cases it is always defined which sectors you can target.
Some abilities enhance your ship’s attack with extra damage, each destroying 1 additional Voidborn ship. These are also dealt in your current sector, unless the ability explicitly says otherwise.
Example: Emily
uses her Frigate to attack, dealing 1 damage in the sector of the Frigate, which destroys 1 Voidborn ship, gaining her 1 Tactics.
Voidborn ships only attack in the Skirmish phase (see Skirmish Phase). As a result of their attack, you might end up with Damage markers on some of the House ships, or the Revenant.
Certain effects and abilities let you remove damage from the ships of the fleet. When you do so, select any Damage marker on a ship and discard it back to the common supply.
Shields are special defensive objects that activate during the Skirmish phase.
When you place a Shield in a sector, take a Shield token from the common supply and place it close to the Voidborn ships.
Note: During the Skirmish phase, each Shield cancels 1 damage from a Voidborn ship.
