The Doppelganger is either on the Villager or Werewolf team, depending on their actions during the night phase.

Doppelganger is only recommended when all players are familiar with the game.

During the night phase, the Doppelganger will be instructed to open their eyes and look at any other player's secret role card. They will then tap that role in the app, and then the app gives information to the Doppelganger depending on which roles they viewed:

Villager: The Doppelganger is a simple Villager. They are on the Villager team.

Seer: The Doppelganger is shown the Magic Word. They do NOT wake up when the Seer is called later in the night. If the Magic Word is guessed correctly and the Werewolves accuse the Doppelganger instead of the player with the Seer card, the Werewolf team still wins. They are on the Village team.

Fortune Teller: The Doppelganger is shown the first letter of each word in the Magic Word. They do NOT wake up when the Fortune Teller is called later in the night. If the Magic Word is guessed correctly and the Werewolves accuse the Doppelganger instead of the player with the Fortune Teller card, the Werewolf team still wins. They are on the Villager team.

Apprentice: The Doppelganger is shown the Magic Word if the Mayor is the Seer, OR the first letter of each word in the Magic Word if the Mayor is the Fortune Teller. They do NOT wake up when the Apprentice is called later in the night. They are on the Villager team.

Minion: The Doppelganger is told to wake up when the Minion wakes up (they will see the Minion as well as the Werewolves). They are on the Werewolf team.

Beholder: The Doppelganger is told to wake up when the Beholder wakes up (they will see the Beholder and Seer). They are on the Villager team.

Werewolf: The Doppelganger is told to wake up with the Werewolves. They will see the Werewolves and the Magic Word. They are on the Werewolf team.

Mason: The Doppelganger is told to wake up with the Masons. They will see who the Masons are. They are on the Villager team.

Thing: The Doppelganger is told to tap the player on their left or right immediately. They do NOT wake up when The Thing wakes up later in the night. They are on the Villager team.
