In the Action Phase, you assign Roles to three cards in your Hand and then calculate the results of the Encounter. This set of cards is your Action Set for this Encounter.
• Spell: This Role determines your Action for this Encounter, either an Attack
against an Enemy or a Move
during a Journey.

during a Journey at a value of 1.
» Mage Cards with both symbols (

) can apply to either Encounter type.
• Element: This Role determines your Initiative
and Ether element for this Encounter.
» There are four Ether elements: Water
, Fire
, Lightning
, and Shadow
. Each Ether element has different strengths and weaknesses.
• Boost: This Role allows you to add the assigned card’s Boost
to either your Attack
, Initiative
, or Move
for this Encounter.
You must assign all three Roles when you have at least three cards in your Hand. If you have fewer than three Mage Cards in your Hand (such as if you Diverted), one of the Roles must be a Spell.
A card not assigned as a Role is your Reserve card.
