1. Prepare the Deck. Orient the Mage Cards to Level 2 and shuffle them. This becomes the Deck. Whenever you shuffle, take care to maintain the current card orientations.

2. Hunt a Dragon. Select a dragon to face in the Final Battle. Place the relevant Dragon Card behind the Deck with the chosen dragon facing you. Set aside the inactive Dragon Card. You will not need it for this game.

3. Draw Your First Hand. Take the first four Mage Cards into your right hand to form your Hand.

4. Prepare for the First Expedition. Orient the Region Card to Region 1 and place it on top of the Deck. Place the inactive Region Card behind the Dragon Card.

5. Start the Adventure. Confront the first Encounter of Region 1.
