Since the object is to capture pieces, and you capture them via eruptions, which are caused by moving caps, it's helpful to plan out your turn in reverse.

1) Study the board for advantageous captures.

2) Figure out where the caps need to be to make this possible.

3) Figure out how to get the caps in position without causing a premature eruption.

4) Execute the cap moves, ending with the final move that causes your planned eruption, and take your captured pieces.
