Round Phase 2: Make Promises

menu

Starting with the player to the left of the dealer and continuing clockwise, each player in turn makes a promise on the number of tricks they plan to win during the round.

Each card has a promise value shown at the bottom of the card. To make a promise, choose any number of cards from your hand (including zero) and place those cards face down in a pile in front of you. The sum of the promise values on those cards is your promise.

This card has a promise value of 1.

Some cards have a range of promise values. During scoring, you will get to decide which of these promise values to use.

This card has a promise value of either 1 or 2.

Other players do not know your promise value, but they do know the number of cards you played as your promise. If your promise consists of 0 cards, your promise value is 0.

The cards you use for your promise may not be played in tricks this round. However, you are allowed to look at your promise cards at any time to remind yourself of your promise value.

Example: You play these 2 cards as your promise. You will keep your promise if you win 2 or 3 tricks during this round.
