Tricksy Toad

Round Phase 3: Play tricks

After everyone has made their promise, the player to the left of the dealer starts the first trick by playing a card from their hand face up in front of them. The suit shown on the card is the trick suit for this trick.

In clockwise order, each other player plays a card from their hand. The card they play must be of the same suit as the trick suit if possible. If they do not have any cards of that suit, they may play any card from their hand. If they have no cards remaining in their hand, they do not play a card.

Once all players (that were able to) have played a card, the player who played the highest value card of the trick suit wins the trick. That player takes all the cards of that trick and puts them face down in a pile in front of them, taking care not to mix them with their promise pile or with piles of cards from any previously won tricks.

The player who won the trick starts the next trick. Exception: See Crown in the Symbol rule.

If the player starting the trick has no more cards in their hand, the next player in clockwise order with cards left in their hand starts the trick. If only one player has cards in their hand, they automatically win each trick they start.
