How many points do energy sources score if they are not surrounded by other tiles?

When placing a tile, do terrain segments or types have to continue?
No.
When you place a land tile, you only need to match the full edge of the tile to a full edge of a previously placed land tile. Continuing a terrain segment into the new tile is often helpful, but not mandatory.

The player most likely to thrive in an apocalypse goes first, and then play moves to the left until the end of the game.

Where can I place an inhabitant?
Normally you can place an inhabitant only on a gear, and only on the land tile you have just placed during your turn. However, some building powers allow you to place extra inhabitants during the game.
