The tile’s edges must match the edges of all the tiles it touches – an edge with an open path must touch an edge with an open path. An edge without an open path must touch another edge without an open path.
Example: The new tile in this particular orientation may be played in this way because its three other edges match the edges of nearby tiles.
Any tile's edges may touch the edges of the board.
Example: Tiles may be placed with either edge (open path or no path) pointing to the edge of the board.
