menu
Do Mountains, Water, and the Permanent Enclosure count as Barriers?
Yes
Mountains, Water, and the Permanent Enclosure count as sides of an Enclosure.
Do Omnivores have to eat both Plants and Meat when they are fed?
No
Omnivores eat either Plants or Meat. You choose which resource when you feed them.
Can I breed my Dinosaurs if the Enclosure was damaged (and therefore is “open“) by an escaping Dinosaur?
No
Dinosaurs must be in a completely closed Enclosure to breed.
Can I assign a Rancher to a space and not perform the action?
No
You must be able to perform an action to place a Rancher on an action space. If a space has multiple actions, then you must perform at least one of them.
Does the Rival score victory points for Dinosaurs in the Rival's Ranch?
Yes
The Rival scores victory points like a regular player would: adding up points from fulfilled Contract Cards, Research Cards and Regular Dinosaurs still left in the Rival's Ranch.
Can the Rival fulfil Contracts, which require Unique Dinosaurs?
Yes
The Rival can fulfil a Contract, which requires a Unique Dinosaur, by discarding a Genetic Research Card.
If the Rival can fulfil several Contracts, which one does the Rival choose?
The leftmost one
If the Rival can fulfil several Contracts, the Rival fulfills the one, which is furthest to the left among them.
Does the Rival breed Dinosaurs?
No
The Rival doesn't participate in any phases, except the second one, so the Rival doesn't breed or feed the Dinosaurs.
How many Public Contracts can the Rival fulfil in a single turn?
1
The Rival can only fulfill 1 Contract per turn, even if the Rival has the Dinosaurs to fulfill several of them.
When the Rival gains a Research Card, which one does the Rival choose?
With most points
When the Rival gains a Research Card, draw 3 new Research Cards and add them into the row. The Rival takes the highest victory point card from the entire row. If there is a tie for the highest, it takes the tied card closest to the deck. The Rival will never take cards, which provide a variable number of points.
Related Rule(s)
Can the Rival gain more than 13 resources?
No
When the Rival gains resources and its token reaches the maximum amount of “13“, the Resource Max Action is immediately triggered. After a Resource Max Action is resolved, the token is reset to 0 and any remainder of resources over 13 is lost.
Related Rule(s)
Does the Rival always perform the Special Action, if the Rival should gain Dinosaurs but cannot do so?
Yes
If the Rival should gain Dinosaurs due to any reason (such as resolving a Rival Rancher Card, Stealing a Dinosaur, or performing a Resource Max Action), while the Rival doesn't have enough space for any of them, then the Rival performs the Rival Special Action.
Related Rule(s)
Does the Rival gain anything, if the Rival Steals a resource or a Dinosaur from me while I don't have it?
No
When the Rival performs the Steal action and you do not have the listed item, then the Rival does not gain that item.
Related Rule(s)
If the Rival gains 2 Dinosaurs, but has space for only 1 of them, does he perform the Special Action?
Yes
If the Rival gains 2 Dinosaurs, but has space for only 1 of them, place the first Dinosaur, and perform the Rival Special Action instead of placing the second Dinosaur.
Does the Rival perform its special action twice, if the Rival should gain 2 Dinosaurs and cannot place any of them?
No
The Rival may perform the Special Action only once per turn.
What happens, if the Rival gains Dinosaurs, but doesn't have space for them?
Takes Special Action
If the Rival gains Dinosaurs and there is no room in the column for that Dinosaur (which only has room for 3) then it is not placed. Instead, the Rival immediately performs the Rival Special Action listed at the top of the Rival Ranch.
Can the Rival occupy action spaces?
Yes
When you assign your own Ranchers, you must first check if there are Rival Rancher Cards placed above an Action Mat. For each card above, every action space on that Action Mat is considered to have a single Rival Rancher on it.
How many turns does the Rival take each round?
4 or 5
The Rival takes 4 turns during each of the first 3 rounds and 5 during each of the last 3 rounds, resolving 1 Rival Rancher Card per turn.

Can I use the special ability listed on the Unique Dinosaur's Research Card, when the Unique Dinosaur is in my Holding Area or if it is escaping?
No
When you gain a Unique Dinosaur, you must first place it into your Holding Area. You do not have its special ability, until you place it into your Ranch. You also lose the special ability, when the Dinosaur is escaping, or if you discard the Dinosaur to fulfil a Contract Card.

Can an escaping Carnivore "eat" an escaping Herbivore to prevent the Herbivore penalty?
